NewPlayerGuide / What is a Guild?.

What is a guild? Thats probably the first question that you will ask upon beginning your journey in the land of Pandora. Well, a guild is a group of people that work together toward a united goal. For example, lets say you want to be a crafter. Well, there's a guild for that. Or you just want to get out there and kill other players, but you want people there to back you up. Well , there's a guild for that too. Or you just can not seem to solo a Champ Spawn. Well, in that case, call up your guild and say "Anybody want to help me beat this Champ Spawn. I am at Old Insula and am getting my head handed to me by lizard men." Chances are, there will be someone in your guild who will say "Yeah, buddy. I'm on my way." There are many types of guilds. There are guilds that roleplay, or say things like, "Verily, tis grand weather we are having in the village of Yew, wouldn't thou say?" or something along those lines. There are PvM guilds, who do not engage in killing of other players, because they don't feel they are good enough, or they would just rather fight monsters and get good gold and items, there are PvP guilds who specifically try to stay in the PvP lands (Felucca and Ilshenar) There is actually a thieving guild, and there is also a guild specifically for New and Young players called the New Player Alliance which is the guild all the screenshots will be from. Okay, so you have decided that you want to join a guild. Well, first you have to find one. Now there are many guilds out there. One way to decide is to run around, you will notice on characters their name and three (or more) letters in parenthesis (as an example, the abbreviation for my old guild Guardians of Valhalla is ODIN so it will appear as Michael Helmsley (Odin) but as I said, we are going to concentrate on the NPA (New Player Alliance), so here we go...

The first step is to find out who is the guild leader or the recruiting officer. For instance, the recruiting officer for the NPA is me, Michael Helmsley. Once you have found that out, seek them out by Pming them via either the [pm persons name or the [c command, find their name and click "m" on the right side, or if you see them in game, simply ask them.

For example, lets say that you want to join the New Player Alliance, well the first thing you do is PM the guild leader or in this case, the recruiting officer. To do that, simply type [PM Michael Helmsley. Once you have done this, three names will come up. Mine is the top one because apparently, I have a long name. Okay, once you have selected who you want, you can word it however you want, but in essence you are gonna be saying, "Hey, need another guild member?" Once they have responded to your query with either yes or no, they will probably ask for you to meet them somewhere. I would suggest that you meet them in a place that is in Trammel ruleset: No PvP. The reason being that you have not joined them yet, so you still want to feel safe. Okay, so you have met them (and they haven't killed you. Always a plus) well, step two is...

See that paperdoll on the right side of your screen? Part way down is an option for guild. Click it and you will be taken to the guild menu. At the bottom, you will see a little square with the text: Ignore Guild Invites and it will be checked.

If you uncheck it, the guild leader will be able to send you an invitation that looks like this.

Click okay once you have read it, and there ya go. You are a member of a guild.

A couple of notes about guild life: most guilds have what is called a Guildhouse. Now, all members should be able to have access to said Guildhouse. Once you are a member, the guildleader will grant you access. If there isn't a guildhouse, don't worry about it.Second thing is that you can communicate with your entire guild, as long as they are online, no matter where in Pandora they are. To do this, use the \ (slash) key and then type your message.

You can use this to for example, get help with a champ spawn, say hi guys, or to for example, tell a specific guildmate "Hey Michael Helmsley, Raevynn (my real life wife and fellow uo player, but not in NPA) is looking for you and she doesn't look happy. Run, guildmate." Believe me, if this happens, the recipient will thank you. Another thing is you can see what guild members are online. Simply use [g (bracket + g)

Well, thats about it. Welcome to guild life, and if you are a new or old player and wish to join the NPA, please PM me, Michael Helmsley, and you can find the Guildhouse via any public moongate. Happy gaming, and I will see you in Pandora!
