PandoraLore / Peerless Bosses

Introduction

Peerless Bosses (or just Peerless) are named monsters that are unique with no equals. Each Peerless has its own location.
Most of them require certain actions and/or keys to enter their rooms (see below).

The Peerless are not weak! So in order to kill them you must have high skills, good equipment and/or enter the lairs in a party.
The rewards for killing these monsters are several unique items in their corpses (no drop in backpack!), most of them very rare (see below).

Peerless Bosses on Pandora

- Dread Horn in Twisted Weald
- Travesty in The Citadel
- Chief Paroxysmus in The Palace of Paroxysmus
- Lady Melisande in Blighted Grove
- Monstrous Interred Grizzle in Bedlam
- Shimmering Effusion in The Prism of Light
- Medusa in Stygian Abyss Dungeon
- Stygian Dragon in Stygian Abyss Dungeon
- The Virtue Bane (a Pandora Peerless) in Terot Skitas ( Sorcerer's Dungeon in Ilshenar), Bucaneer's Den (Felucca), Fire Island (Felucca), Wind (Felucca)

Infested Peerless Bosses

You can also infest the Peerless Bosses to get Infested Artifacts. Read here: AgeOfTheInfested

Keys

Some of the Peerless rooms are only accessible by using special items, called "keys". Usually you can obtain these keys by killing certain monsters in the dungeon or area where the lair of the Peerless is located. (Note: Not always these keys are literally keys. Most of the time they are special items, functioning as keys!)

Some of the keys function directly as keys to enter the room of the Peerless. Other keys must be exchanged into a boss key. After double clicking the boss key a gump will pop up.
There you confirm your challenge to the Peerless, enter his room and it has been summoned.

Once in the room and fighting the boss, there is a time limit of two hours to kill it. Is the time up, you will be ejected from this room!
After the boss is killed, another time limit will start: You have about 10 minutes to loot before you will be ejected.
(Note: For this reason at some Peerless you will be teleported back to the location after you already left.)

Each key has a timer of 24 hours. After this time expires, the key will disappear instantly.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Leaving the room earlier, before defeating the boss, lets the Peerless "bug out". No one will be able to summon it then and to fight it!
So be sure you wanna do this!

Dread Horn

Location

Twisted Weald Dungeon (Ilshenar), close to Spirituality. You need to accept the Quest "Dread Horn" in Heartwood (Moongate, Trammel) to enter the dungeon!

Description

Dread Horn is a corrupted Unicorn, ruling over the Twisted Weald. The best strategy to kill Dread Horn is to use one pet and let everyone in the party heal it or just use Animated Weapons (Mysticism) and attack Dread Horn with ranged weapons. Be careful, because he will teleport you to his location and do high damage!
When it is close to death Dread Horn will start to teleport himself over the island where it spawned.
Killing it with a pet can be difficult because of constant poisoning.

Fey Slayer

Keys

- Thorny Briar: grows in the Desert area
- Blighted Cotton: grows in the Swamp area
- Sabrix Eye: from the named spider Sabrix
- Gnaw's Fang: from the named Dire Wolf Gnaw
- Irk's Brain: from the named Changeling Irk
- Lissith's Silk: from the named spider Lissith

Walk through the first area into the Desert. There you can only walk slowly. Stay hidden!

Grab the Thorny Briar.

Walk to the swamp, grab the Blighted Cotton.
Gnaw spawns in a small cave at the end of the Desert. He will spawn dire wolves when you attack him.

Be careful, because changelings may follow you here, Dryads in the Desert can calm you and Satyrs discord you and your pets.
The spiders are easier to kill. Changelings, also Irk, can make it a little more difficult. There are also other spiders, Virulent and Malefic, a little stronger than Sabrix and Lissith.

The keys must be turned in at the small statue in the south of the swamp, to get the boss key.
Note: Dread Horn can also spawn randomly in the Swamp! Without any keys.

Loot

- Peerless Ingredients
- Dread Horn Tainted Mushroom
- Pandora Peerless CC
- Dread Flute
- Dread's Revenge
- Imbuing Materials

Travesty

Location

The Citadel (Tokuno Islands). You need to accept the quest "Black Order Badges" at Sarraki in Britain, close to the library, to be able to enter the citadel. At the entrance of the citadel double click the crate on the ground to get inside!

Description

Travesty will first appear as a butterfly-like huge changeling. Later on she will take the form of the player or pet attacking her.
She can mimic the Discordance skill of the player with the highest skill, making the fight a little more difficult.
When she is close to death she spawns creatures, so be careful. Although Travesty can be considered as the easiest of all Peerless.

Slayer

none

Keys

- Dragon Flame Key (an orange key): from Grandmaster Mage
- Tiger Claw Key (a blue key): from Master Thief
- Serpent Fang Key (a yellow key): from the High Executioner

Guide

After you double clicked the crate you are inside of the citadel. There spawn a lot of Ronins, Ninjas, Assassins, Thieves and Mages inside. Also be careful, because there are traps on the ground.
The citadel is filled with secret doors. You find them by double clicking the walls. In the first huge hall there are levers on both sides. Double click them and then the walls to enter the dungeon itself and to find the creatures who drop the keys.
The keys must be turned in at the small table near the entrance, to get the master key.

Loot

- Peerless Ingredients
- Old CC
- Mark of the Travesty
- Imprisoned Dog

Chief Paroxysmus

Location

The Palace of Paroxysmus, a dungeon located west of the city of Papua in the Lost Lands in both Felucca and Trammel. Several quests from Heartwood will take you here.
In order to enter the palace you need to have 5,000 gold in your backpack to buy the Acid Proof Rope from the NPC near the entrance.
You can also craft the item with the Carpentry Skill and the following ingredients:
Two Switches, one Greater Strength Potion and one Potection Scroll. (has to be confirmed yet!)

Description

Paroxysmus is a large "Jabba the Hutt" like creature. He does high poison damage, be careful. Also Paroxysmus is a pet eater: He will kill pets and summoned creatures instantly!
Also he will teleport his opponents to his location. His attacks are heavily poison based and his lethal poison area damage has a high range.
He is found at first with three other creatures that are smaller, and less dangerous, versions of himself.
Do cross-healing, use magery and range attacks (while moving constantly), try to keep distance.

Slayer

none

Keys

- Gelatanous Skull: from Corrosive Slime
- Partially Digested Torso: from Corrosive Slime
- Coagulated Legs: from Corrosive Slime
- Spleen of the Putrefier: from The Putrefier

Guide

You exchange the keys (see above) for an ointment at the cauldron found in the far southeast of the dungeon. Rub it on yourself by double clicking. Then, walk across the acid river (which previously was an insta-death to walk across) to the island to the east of the cauldron, and double click the gate.
The whole dungeon is huge and it takes time to obtain all 4 keys. The corrosive slimes and several other creatures do high damage on your equipment, so be careful and check the durabilities of your items. The Putrefier spawns in the western area.
The river that crosses the dungeon is of acid and dangerous. The exit to the dungeon (in case you need to leave early) is not where you come in but up some stairs on the right hand side, roughly south west of the Entrance. The entrances to the first room, filled with daemons and balrons, are protected by pillars that fill the air with poison.
The acid lake at the end and the river nearby aren't just damaging but insta-death until you have the key for crossing (see above). Paroxysmus's lair is on an island in the middle of the lake. To get to the island you have to first rub the special slimy ointment upon yourself, then wade across the lake to the gates. You can't just walk around them, you have to double-click on the gates, which teleports you inside.

Loot

- Peerless Ingredients
- Pandora Peerless CC
- Paroxysmus Swamp Dragon Statuette
- Scepter of the Chief

Lady Melisande

Location

Blighted Grove Dungeon, both Trammel and Felucca. On Pandora there is no special quest or item to enter the dungeon itself.

Description

The beautiful but evil Lady Melisande won't give you an easy fight.
She will cast an area spell with the following effects: This "putrid nausea" attack reduces swing speed by 60, Hit Chance Increase by 60, Defense Chance Increase by 60 and Faster Casting by 5 for 30 seconds, so mages and archers should definitely stand at a distance.
Also she has company: The Satyrs' discordance ability can severely weaken players, so at the beginning attack cautiously and control the situation. Using Energy Fields in the right places will help keep Lady Melisande at a distance, and allow the satyrs to be killed one by one. In a party with no mages, use other luring techniques.

Slayer

Fey Slayer

Keys

To enter Melisande's Lair you need a blessing of the Frightened Dryad. The dryad spawns inside the dungeon:
If you talk to her she will give you a quest. You have to kill Saliva, a Harpy found inside the giant tree. Also you have to kill 12 Insane Dryads inside the dungeon.
Once you have the Dryad's Blessing you can turn it into the actual "key", the Dryad's Curse via the basket near the Frightened Dryad.

Guide

Be careful inside the dungeon. The dryads can calm you, several monsters are really able to kill you. When calmed, hide or use a pet to defend yourself.

As the quest progresses, "Not Quite That Easy" quest of the quest chain will lead you to talk to Master Gnosos the Necromancer found inside Bedlam. Double click the iron maiden to enter Bedlam!

Description

The Grizzle has an area effect spell that reduces movement speed, decreases Faster Casting by 5, Faster Cast Recovery by 5 and Swing Speed Increase by 60.
When damaged, the Monstrous Interred Grizzle spills an acidious fluid that greatly damages ones armor if stepped on. Use range weapons!

Slayer

none

By talking to Master Cohenn the Librarian you can start the quest for the Librarian's Key, which can be used to gain access to the Grizzle (exchange the notes).
The following creatures can drop the notes: Master Jonath, Master Theophilus, Master Mikael, Lady Jennifyr, Lady Marai and Sir Patrick.

- Monstrous Interred Grizzle Armor Set
- Old CC

Shimmering Effusion

Location

The Prism of Light dungeon, both Felucca and Trammel, on the north side of Nujel'm.

Description

The Effusion itself is not too hard to kill. Use pets and range weapons.
The boss will spawn several minions to attack you and your company. Always kill the summoned creatures first. Especially the Corporeal Brumes take a while to kill and have high physical resists.

Slayer

Fey Slayer

Keys

- Crushed Crystal Pieces: from Crystal Sea Serpent
- Pieces of Crystal: from Crystal Lattice Seeker
- Broken Crystals: from Unfrozen Mummy
- Scattered Crystals: from Crystal Daemon
- Shattered Crystals: from Crystal Hydra
- Jagged Crystals: from Crystal Vortex

Guide

Crystal Daemons are easy to kill, also Lattice Seekers. The mummies can be a little harder when they are in groups. While the serpents are easy targets, the hydras are the hardest monsters in the dungeon. Especially in groups they can kill you easily. A single vortex is no problem, but in a spawn of 4 or more they can be hard to kill.
After entering the dungeon use the gate straight forward. The first room is the Daemon room, down to the right is the room with hydras and serpents. If you go up through the gate in the daemon room you will enter the vortex room. Elementals will also spawn here. Behind the next gate there are the lattice seekers. Go inside the crystal structure to find the gate to the mummy room. There is also a gate to the outside. Note: On the Trammel Side this gate is invisible (but functionable).

Dropping the Keys

In the mummy room there are six pillars, one for each key. They must be dropped into the pillars in the correct order:
Stand in the middle, next to the 3 top pillars. From the left to the right: Crushed, Broken, Pieces.
Move down, in the middle, next to the 3 pillars on the bottom. From the left to the right: Jagged, Scattered, Shattered.
(Note: You may hide while dropping the keys.)

She will copy pets and summoned creatures and create "Evil Twins", that may attack you. If you have to use a pet, hide when this has happened. Let the twins attack Medusa, if she does poison area damage. But it is wise to not use pets.

Slayer

Repond Slayer
Note: Do not use an Undead Slayer weapon, for it doubles Medusa's damage on you!

Keys

You have to get a rare serpent egg from the serpent that spawns in the area of the bridge. This serpent is very fast and does high poison damage!
If you have the egg you can turn it in at the basket on the "altar". You will receive the key to enter Medusa's Lair. Double-click it!

If he calls your name he has you in his focus. Go away for a few seconds, be careful when the flames are falling on the ground. Do not stand in the fire.
Use one or two strong pets and keep them healed and cured. Use range weapons.
Sometimes the Stygian Dragon walks or flies into walls: Let your pets follow you and lure him back.

There will be a message in game when Virtue Bane is about to spawn in 60 minutes, then another message when there are 30 minutes left. When Virtue Bane spawns,
a message will tell you one of the four locations!

Description

The Virtue Bane does high damage. Like Dread Horn he will teleport you to his location, and also teleport around in the area when close to death.
If you are using a pet keep it healed and cured. Or use Animated Weapons (Mysticism) and range weapons, keep distance.

Slayer

unknown, probably none

Keys

None. Virtue Bane spawns on 4 specified locations. It will be announced in game if and where he spawns.

Guide

Depending on the location (see above) you have to fight several other creatures while in a fight with Bane. These can be the recruits, also Liches, Elementals, other undead creatures and monsters. Try to lure the Bane out or kill all other monsters before you attack Virtue Bane!

Loot

- Talismans
- Peerless Ingredients
- Pandora Coins
- Imbuing Materials
- Pandora Peerless CC
- Essence of Bane

Essence of Bane

The Essence of Bane enables you to apply the property "Bane" on your weapon and spellbook.
Each Virtue Bane drops a white Essence of Bane. You need 5 Essences of Bane. Then have them all in
your backpack, double-click one Essence and combine them to one full Essence of Bane (red colored).
Double-click it, then target your weapon and click again to apply it. To apply Bane on a Spellbook you have to combine two full Essences of Bane (so you need 10 white Essences, combine 5 each to 2 full, then combine the 2 full)
You can only put it on Melee Weapons and Spellbooks, and it only works in PvM:
Get a physical damage bonus once your target is at 50% Health or lower. The damage will raise with each successful hit.
