Introduction

PvM ("Player versus Monster") or PvE ("Player versus Environment") means all combat actions, fighting and spellcasting a Character
does against Monsters and NPC's ("Non Player Characters") in order to kill these and obtain Artifacts, Gold, Materials for Imbuing and
Crafting and other Loot.
It is everything combat related that does not go against other Player Characters (that would be PvP, "Player versus Player").

PvM Places and Locations

There is the chance of PvM almost everywhere in the world. You can kill creatures in Dungeons, certain Peerless and Named Bosses,
Champion Spawns and Mini Champs; you can go to Tokuno and hunt for Treasures of Tokuno, run the Doom Gauntlet and many more things.
This Guide will cover all these things and more.

AFK and Macros

You are not allowed to be AFK ("Away from Keyboard") while doing PvM. If you find yourself in a situation you have to go AFK please
find a safe spot before you do.
You are allowed to use Macros, for example Whirlwind Macros or Armor Ignore Macros. This will be covered in a later section.

Mechanics

There are sometimes certain ways you have to handle your Character in combat with specific monsters. This will be covered in a later section.
Check the Imbuing Guide how to apply Hit Effects and Hit Area Effects on your weapons: ImbuingGuide

Artifacts

Some Bosses and other creatures can drop specific Artifacts once you killed them. These loots are not guaranteed, there is always only a chance.
You find informations on Artifact Locations here: ArtifactLocations

Basic Mechanics, Abilities, Properties

When fighting Bosses, Champions and other creatures there are some mechanics you can always use. These refer to specific Spells and Weapon Abilities
that are very useful to deal more damage and/or to protect yourself.
After an example how to proceed when encountering your target the different abilities and properties will be explained!

You can set up all the Weapon Abilities (Special Moves) as a Hotkey or - better - in a Macro in UO Steam. This will be described later on.
The same goes for many of the other Spells and Abilities.

Example

When fighting a single monster or Boss or Champion you can basically always use the same mechanics to deal high damage and protect yourself:
Cast Vampiric Embrace
Cast Bless
Cast Gift of Renewal and Attunement if necessary Honor the target
Cast Enemy of One
Attack the Target
Use Armor Ignore
Discord the Target
Cast Divine Fury if necessary
Cast Immolating Weapon if necessary
Cast Consecrate Weapon now and then
Use Death Strike if you like to

Bless

Cast Bless.

Armor Ignore and other Special Moves

Armor Ignore is a Weapon Ability (Special Move) that deals very high Damage in PvM. Armor Ignore ignores the Physical Resistance of the target. You can
set it up in a UO Steam Macro, so you don't have to press your Hotkey for each hit against your target (see Macro Section).
There are other Special Moves like for example Mortal Strike, Concussion or Crushing Blow that are also useful in specific situations. Of course you can also
use these in a Macro.
For more infos on Special Moves see here: WeaponAbilities
In a Spawn you would use the Whirlwind Special Move, see below.

Enemy of One

Enemy of One is a Chilavry Spell you can activate to do more damage on a specific creature or Boss:
Simply set up a Hotkey for it on UO Steam. Then activate it via Hotkey.
You will do more damage on the next target you attack until the duration of the spell ends. You can always reactivate it or switch your target and cast
the spell again. You will do more damage against your current target which will be highlighted - other targets will deal more damage against you!
This works with Melee and Ranged Weapons.
For more information on Chivalry check here: ChivalryGuide

Honor

The virtue Honor can be activated and used via Hotkey and/or a UO Steam Macro.
You can only honor a target that is at full health. Doing so enables you to deal more damage against this specific target up to a specific maximum.
If you switch to another target and honor this new target you will lose the honor on the "old" target.
For more infos on Honor and Bushido please read here: WeaponAbilities

Discordance

By using the skill Discordance you can lower the stats and resists of your target by a specific amount. Leaving the area or hiding yourself might stop the
effects and you have to discord your target again. You can discord more than one target at the same time.
You can set up a Hotkey or Macro in UO Steam to use Discordance on a target. To be able to use Discordance you must also have the skill Musicianship and an
instrument in your backpack!

Consecrate Weapon

This Chivalry Spell, activated via Hotkey, will enable you to direct your damage against the target's weakest resist!

Divine Fury

If low on Stamina use this Chivalry Spell with a Hotkey (or in a Macro) to maximize your Stamina.

Death Strike

Using Death Strike with a Hotkey gives you a small damage bonus upon a successful hit.

Slayer

Lots of Bosses, Champions and other monsters have a vulnerability to Slayers. This means using the correct Slayer will enable you to deal more damage against
specific creatures. This is a passive ability. The Slayer property must be on your weapon, spellbook or instrument to apply.
Read more about Slayers here: SlayerGuide

Bane

This is a passively triggered Property and can be applied to any Melee Weapon and Spellbooks (you need two full Essences per Book!). Bane only works in PvM:
If your current target is at 50% or less health you will begin to deal bonus damage that raises the lower the target's health is, with each hit!
You can apply this property on your weapon by collecting five "Essences of Bane" from the Peerless Virtue Bane and combine them to one full essence. Then
simply double-click the Essence to add Bane on the weapon of your choice (target it and click it).
Virtue Bane's appearance will be announced in the game and he spawns at one of the following locations:
Fire Temple (Felucca)
Terot Skitas Ilshenar (Fel)
Bucaneer's Den (Felucca)
Dungeon Wind (Felucca)

Vampiric Embrace

Some creatures and Bosses will deal high damage against you. This includes Champion Spawns and other spawns like the Void Pool for example.
Use Vampiric Embrace to stay alive and leech life from your targets.
Read more about it here: NecromancyGuide

Attunement

This is a Spellweaving Spell that reduces and absorbs incoming Melee Damage for the duration.

Gift of Renewal

This is a Spellweaving Spell that boosts your Hit Point Regeneration for the duration.

Immolating Weapon

This is a Spellweaving Spell that can only be activated when using a Melee Weapon. You will cause fire damage.

Hit Effects and other Properties on Weapons

The Hit Effects on your weapons will obviously raise the total damage you cause.
See here: WeaponProperties
There are also three Hit Effects that will keep you alive:
Hit Life Leech
Hit Mana Leech
Hit Stamina Leech

Weapons, Melee and Ranged

There are few "must have" Weapons you should use in PvM to maximize your damage:
Hammerpick for Armor Ignore
Composite Bow for Armor Ignore
Soul Glaive for Armor Ignore
A Weapon with the Whirlwind Special Move for Spawns

Hit Effects

Hit Effects help you dealing damage. You can find these on weapons or imbue them, this also goes for Hit Area Effects.

Melee or Ranged?

It really depends on the situation when to use Melee or Ranged Weapons. If your target does extremely high damage or
has other abilities at close range you want to use Ranged Weapons. Otherwise Melee is a good choice for a bit higher damage.

Shields?

Using a Shield enables you to parry ranged attacks, will raise your stats (including combat relevant stats) and will possibly
have the Damage Eater property.
Theoretically there is no reason not to use a Shield in PvM. Of course a two handed weapon would do more damage and enable you to
parry with Bushido instead of a shield, including using Evasion to evade Spells. Some Bushido abilities can't be used with a shiel in hand.
Pure Mages of course use a Shield (see below).

What about Spellbooks and Mages?

This will be explained in a later section!

Damagetypes

Each weapon has a specific type of elemental damage it deals (including physical):
This can be Physical, Fire, Poison, Cold, Energy, Chaos Damage or a combination.
A Weapon dealing 100% Fire Damage will apply its damage against the Fire Resist of a target. A Weapon that for example has 50% Cold and 50% Poison Damage
will apply the damage against Cold and Poison Damage (splitted).
Chaos Damage means it will deal one of the elements randomly, including physical damage.
The Damagetypes of a weapon are important if you are fighting specific creatures that are more vulnerable to a certain element.
This will be explained later on.

Fighting Spawns

When fighting Champion Spawns or other Spawns like the Void Pool for example you will use a slightly different style:
You use the Whirlwind Special Move.

Whirlwind

The Whirlwind Special Move is a Weapon Ability found on specific Melee Weapons. See also here (external link): http://www.uoguide.com/Whirlwind_Attack
It enables you to deal damage on multiple targets around you.
You can set it up with a Hotkey but the better choice would be a UO Steam Macro (see below).
Combined with Hit Area Effects and Hit Effects you will deal high damage in a Spawn.

Hit Area Effects

Hit Area Effects (you apply them with Imbuing) will work perfectly in combination with the Whirlwind Special Move and deal the specific damage
on multiple targets in an area ("AoE").
There are the following imbuable Hit Effects:
Hit Physical Area, Hit Fire Area, Hit Poison Area, Hit Cold Area, Hit Energy Area

Wildfire

You can target a bigger area of effect and more creatures when using the spell Wildfire from time to time.

Vampiric Embrace

Of course Vampiric Embrace will also protect you.

Divine Fury

Of course this works also in Spawns.

Battle Lust

Battle Lust, found on some Artifacts, will "collect" a certain amount of taken damage, then "unload" your damage with a bonus.

Bane

Bane also works to an extend in stronger Spawns.

Life Leech, Mana Leech, Stamina Leech

These three Hit Effects are a must have on any Spawn weapon!

PvM with a Pure Mage

On Pandora you can play Pure Mages. Since they rely on Magic and their Spellbook there is a slightly different approach.
Read about Pure Mages here: PureMageGuide
Make sure you have full Spell Penetration and very high Spell Damage Increase!

Equipment

Besides there gear described in the Pure Mage Guide Pure Mages use the follwing items:
Spellbook in hand
Shield (best choices: "Calmness in Calamity" or "Arrow Breaker" Shields)

Fighting Single Monsters, Bosses, Creatures

Use all your Spells and Debuffs at your disposal. Base your choices on the weakest resistances of your target. You can use "Curse" to lower
your target's resist, use "Corpse Skin" to lower the fire resist.
The overall best choices for Spells, unrelated to resists, are:
Fireball, Flame Strike, Explosion, Harm, Lightning, Energy Bolt, Eagle Strike

Fighting Spawns

The best choice is using a UO Steam Macro that uses Wildfire and Wither. You can also try to setup a Macro using Chain Lightning and Wildfire.

Protective Measures

Vampiric Embrace

Use Vampiric Embrace!

Buffs

Of course you can use almost all of the described Buffs. Honor does not work as you are using Spells, the same goes for Enemy of One and some others.

Balanced

Add "Balanced for Spellbooks" on your Spellbook via Imbuing to be able to use potions.

Potions

Use Heal, Refreshment and Mana Potions!

Protection

The Spell Protection will avoid Interruption but for the cost of Resisting Spells and Casting Speed. This is your choice.

Slayers

You can add Slayers on Spellbooks via Imbuing. Also maximize your SDI!

Specific Properties

Your Pure Mage will need the following properties, found on specific Artifacts:
Resonance, Casting Focus, Calmful Mind, Soul Charge

Vulnerabilities of Monsters

Each creature has specific vulnerabilities. There are two major ones that will be described here.

Slayer Vulnerability

Many creatures are vulnerable to specific Slayers. Read the Slayer Guide to learn more!

Resistances

Like Player Characters also Monsters have Resistances that vary from creature to creature:
Physical, Fire, Cold, Poison, Energy

Since they are not always the same, certain elemental damagetypes on weapons deal more damage on a creature than others,
since the lower a resist is the more damage can go through. You can lower resists of a creature using Curse (if you are a Pure Mage) and
by using the Skill Discordance.
You check the current Stats and Resists of a creature with the skill Animal Lore. Also you can use Consecrate Weapon as described.

You can change the Damagetype on a weapon with Elemental Damage Deeds.

Specific creatures have naturally lower resists against specific elements, so be advised to use weapons that have the proper damagetypes. Those
creatures fall into specific groups, similar to Slayer Vulnerabilites. Note that this is not a full list and that there are always exceptions:

Elemental Damage Vulnerabilities

Repond
Cold

Reptile
Cold

Undead
Fire

Demon/Abyss
Fire

Fey
Varies, sometimes Energy, sometimes Cold or Fire

Elementals
Varies between all damagetypes!

Doing PvM: Locations and Features

There are many Locations you can do PvM to obtain specific loot and artifacts and several systems or features enabling you to do this.
The most popular and common will be described here.

Champions and Champion Spawns, Mini Champs

Doing Champion Spawns to summon and kill a specific Champion will give you lots of Gold and also Powerscrolls. You use a Whirlwind Weapon in
Champion Spawns and against the Champion preferably a Weapon with Armor Ignore.
Go into the Spawn, activate your Whirlwind Macro and kill everything! Then switch your Weapon and kill the Champion.
Read about Champion Spawns here: Champions
Read about Mini Champs here: MiniChamps

Infestation

You can infest all creatures on Pandora as described in the Infestation Guide. This includes Champions, Doom and other Places!
Read here about Infestation: AgeOfTheInfested

Void Pool

The Void Pool in Dungeon Covetous Level 2 (Trammel and Felucca) is basically some type of Tower Defense. But the tower in this case is the
Void Pool you have to protect against incoming Monster Waves, a bit similar to a Champion Spawn. The waves will become stronger and stronger.
You fight the incoming waves like you fight a Spawn.
Read more about the Void Pool here: VoidPool

Named Bosses and Peerless Bosses

There are several Locations you find these Bosses on Pandora. You use an Armor Ignore Weapon against these.
See here: PeerlessBosses and here NamedMonsters

There are the following Peerless Bosses on Pandora:
Dread Horn in Twisted Weald (Ilshenar)
Travesty in the Citadel (Tokuno)
Chief Paroxysmus in the Palace of Paroxysmus
Lady Melisandre in Blighted Grove
Monstrous Interred Grizzle in Bedlam
Shimmering Effusion in Prism of Light
Medusa in Stygian Abyss Dungeon
Stygian Dragon in Stygian Abyss Dungeon
Virtue Bane in 4 possible locations (see "Bane")

These are some of the most popular Named Bosses:
Ancient Hell Hound in the Ancient Cove
Corgul the Soulbinder on Corgul's Island
Lurg and Grobu in Painted Caves
Miasma in the Labyrinth
Navrey Night-Eyes in the Underworld
Niporailem in Tomb of Kings
Osiredon the Scalis Enforcer (summoned on Water)
Poseidon in the Ancient Cove and Poseidon's Beach (Ilshenar)
Red Death in Bedlam
Slasher of Veils in Stygian Abyss Dungeon
Swoop in Tomb of Kings and Twisted Weald
The Great Ape in Eodon
Tyrannosaurus Rex in Eodon

Doom and the Gauntlet

There you find some of the most viable Artifacts in the game. See here: DoomGauntlet
You fight the Bosses and the Dark Father with a weapon with Armor Ignore.

Treasures of Tokuno

If the event is active you can go to these three locations:
Yomutsu Mines (Tokuno), Fandancer Dojo (Tokuno) and Ankh Dungeon (Ilshenar)
Go there via Moongate.

You have to kill the creatures in these dungeons to obtain minor ToT's. These you can turn in to one greater ToT.

You fight the creatures with a weapon with Armor Ignore!

Macros

In order to use the described Special Moves, Spells and other things described you can use several Macros in UO Steam. These are very basic and simple
Macros to give you something to start and work on as you proceed. They will only cover the basic things you need when you begin.

Setting up a Macro in UO Steam

To set up a Macro in UO Steam do this:
1. Go to Steam
2. Go to the Tab Macros
3. Click NEW
4. Name your Macro (Example: Whirlwind, or ArmorIgnore)
5. Type in the command lines into the blank area OR:
Copy and Pase the described Macros here into the blank area
6. Click and Enable LOOP for Whirlwind and Armor Ignore Macros
7. Assign a Hotkey to activate a Macro
8. Click "Pass to UO"
9. Click SAVE
10. Always SAVE your complete Steam Profile after making any changes!

You can always adjust your Macros to your preferences. For example you might have to adjust your Hitpoints or Stamina and other Stats if you
copy and paste Macros from other players than yourself or from this Guide. Always SAVE changes and your profile!

When copying and pasting the following Macros you might have to adjust your Hitpoints, Stamina and other Stats. Simply go into the correct
line and change the Stats. Also it's possible you have to change the Special Move the Macro uses, depending which type of Weapon you are using.
Then simply go to the correct line and change "primary" to "secondary" or vice versa.

Macros

You can copy paste these Macros as described and set the Macros up as described. You might have to adjust some things as described.

The following Macros are just very simple and basic Macros to give you something to build on and a general idea of how this works. Of course
you can cover potions, enchanted apples and other things in Macros as you proceed. This here is just basics!

Simple Whirlwind Macro for Spawns

getenemy 'enemy' 'criminal' 'gray' 'closest'
attack 'enemy'
setability 'secondary' 'on'
pause 1000
if buffexists "Curse"
cast "Remove Curse"
waitfortarget 3000
target! 'self'
endif
pause 200
if hits <= 100
cast "Greater Heal"
waitfortarget 3000
target! 'self'
endif
pause 200
if hits <= 20
useskill "Spirit Speak"
endif
pause 100
if stam <= 200
cast "Divine Fury"
endif

This Macro will automatically pick an enemy target and use the Whirlwind Ability. It will remove curses, heal you and use Divine Fury.
If you have to adjust your Hitpoints when using potions go to "if hits <= 100" and change the value. If you have to change the Stamina for
when to use Divine Fury go here "if stam <= 200" and change the value.

Simple Armor Ignore Macro for single targets

attack 'enemy'
setability 'primary' 'on'
pause 100
if stam <= 200
cast "Divine Fury"
endif
pause 200
if hits < 225
cast "Evasion"
endif
pause 200
if hits <= 100
cast "Greater Heal"
waitfortarget 3000
target! 'self'
endif
pause 200
if buffexists 'Curse'
cast "Remove Curse"
waitfortarget 3000
target! 'self'
pause 200
cast "Bless"
waitfortarget 3000
target! 'self'
endif
pause 200
if buffexists 'Blood Oath'
cast "Remove Curse"
waitfortarget 3000
target! 'self'
endif

This Macro will use the Armor Ignore Special Move on targets, heal and buff you. Adjust stats if necessary as described for the Whirlwind Macro.
Also: The Macro will not auto target and attack targets to avoid you killing random stuff or attack criminal players. Of course you can change this by adding
the following on top:

getenemy 'enemy' 'criminal' 'gray' 'closest'
attack 'enemy'

If you don't want to auto pick and attack the target leavethe Macro as it is and set up Hotkeys in UO Steam to target and attack your last (current) closest enemy
target!
